A Crescendo of Praise
Revelation 1:6, 4:11, 5:13, 7:12
Revelation is a book of worship. It reminds us that no other person or thing deserves our worship and allegiance but God. The doxologies within this letter reflect this. They also build to a crescendo as the end of the age draws near:
- The twofold doxology: "To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen" (1:6).
- The threefold doxology: "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power" (4:11).
- The fourfold doxology: "Blessing and honor and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!" (5:13)
- The sevenfold doxology: "Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen." (7:12; all italics added).
