The patriarch Abraham left the city of Ur of the Chaldeans because God was relocating him to another place. Abraham may have occupied a fabulous home in Ur. Extensive excavations have been done in that ancient site, and many of the artifacts are now in the British Museum in London. If Abraham was a well-regarded resident of his city, he likely enjoyed a comfortable two-story brick house with a lobby, courtyard, kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms, and reception room. In the providence and will of God, Abraham and Sarah left their comfortable home to dwell in tents "for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God" (Heb. 11:9–10).
