A Word from the Women

Song of Solomon 2:1-17

Although most of the biblical writers were men, women often took the lead in ancient love poetry, and the Song is no exception. Of the Song’s 117 verses, 55 come from the lips of the Shulamite, and another 19 verses are attributed to her. “The daughters of Jerusalem” also receive credit for a number of additional verses. However, Solomon does not represent a nonresponsive male. As the book demonstrates, he shines in modeling quality communication, leadership, creativity, and affirmation.
