Because of Moses' rash action at the rock, Yahweh would not permit him to lead Israel into the Promised Land. However, God caused Moses to appear later in the Promised Land briefly at the Mount of Transfiguration. He and Elijah were conversing with Jesus, whose majesty and glory was unveiled briefly (Matt. 17:3; Mark 9:2–8). Maybe Moses even got a chance to look around, but he would not have been looking for long because the brilliance of the Lord Jesus overwhelmed every other hope that he had ever had. In one short moment, Moses could not have cared less about the Promised Land because he was standing with the Promised One.
