How to Really Love Jesus
John 14:21
How do we express our love to the One who loved us with the gift of His own life?
- By obeying His commandments. Jesus says, "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him" (14:21).
- By serving others. In 13:35, we read, "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." The joy that we have in loving Jesus by serving His people is one of the greatest joys we will know apart from salvation. And if we are not serving, we are missing out on something that God wants us to know.
- By showing compassion to the needy. We read in Matthew 25:37 and following, "'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?' . . . and the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."
The Bible promises that as we love Jesus in these ways, He will make Himself known to us, and He will make His home with us. We will also have beautiful opportunities to honor Christ's name in the world as we love Him by loving and serving others.
